Missing--Open--
He had known that it was a mistake to take Mia with him. She had been pestering him about it for days. Daryl liked the kid. She was sweet and intelligent. Finally, after the many No’s on his part and the sad looks on her part, Daryl had given in. He had known it was going to be a mistake but she had gotten permission from Robert who Daryl figured was not actually related to her but had taken the girl under his wing. Daryl left with her through the gate on foot. He had told Mia the rules a good dozen times but still he was worried. With the Walkers, leaving the Prison was always dangerous. All had gone well for about an hour. Daryl had not caught anything but Mia had stuck near him.
Then his nightmare became reality. He had turned around to say something to her and Mia was gone. Instantly his heart leapt into his chest and hunting was forgotten. He turned in place looking for the girl but she was nowhere to be seen. “Mia!” Daryl called not caring who else might have heard him. He quickly started looking for her and cursing to himself. He had know this was going to be a bad idea... Why had he not just stayed strong? Why had he not refused to bring her along. He was so stupid. He was scared for her. This was Sofia all over again. For hours he searched, calling her name dozens of times. He double back the way they had come, went nearly a mile each way off of their route. Nothing.
Finally he knew he had to get back to the prison and get help. He would not lose another child in the woods. He couldn’t. Daryl reached the prison at a full out run. The gates were opened by Carl but Daryl did not stop. As soon as he reached the others in the Cell Block, looking completely distraught and out of breath he moaned, “I lost her.”
