It had been a few days since the last supply run where Ashley and Kylie had gone out for supplies, yet still there hadn't been any sign of their sister or Ashley's husband and son. Ashley was beginning to suspect that they had gotten their wires crossed. That or something terrible had happened to them, but she couldn't allow herself to think that. She had to keep faith that they were alright. When the group first got separated, their original plan had been to meet at a farm a few miles away from where they had been located at the time. The couple had known about this place from early in their marriage and had hoped it would be a salvation for their family now. Problem was when Ashley had gotten there the house had been burned down and it was surrounded by those monsters. They didn't have any other choice but to continue on to the next town and then the next. When they found somewhere safe for the group, they settled in and Ashley held out hope that her husband would find her. She knew it would be a long shot, but she wasn't about to give up hope. That brings us to the here and now. With Ashley sitting inside of an old abandoned warehouse brushing her daughter's long brown hair. Despite being old, the building was sturdy with few windows and doors. When the group had first arrived, they had boarded up the windows and blocked off all exit doors except for two. A precaution, but one that made it feel even more like a prison then it already was. As Ashley continued to run the brush through her daughter's hair, she glanced around at the rest of the space. They had raided the stores close by and brought in any furniture they could find to make the place more comfortable for everyone. She should have been happy. They were safe here. Their group had started at twenty when this all began. They had lost many and gained a few along the way, but since finding this space they hadn't lost anyone. Despite the numbers outside waiting to kill them, those monsters hadn't managed to break inside. The building was strong. They could probably start over here, but it didn't feel right. “Mommy?” the small questioning voice broke through Ashley's thoughts. She realized she had stopped brushing her daughter's hair. Looking down at the blue eyes in front of her – blue eyes that mirrored the child's father so much – Ashley forced herself to smile. A smile that she knew didn't quite reach her eyes. She knew she would never be happy here. Not without them. Not without her sister Rebecca. Not without her son Adrian. Not without her husband Chris. She could never begin to move on until she knew what had happened to them. She needed to know if they were still alive. Running her fingers through her daughter's hair, Ashley leaned forward and kissed Camille on her forehead. “It's going to be okay.” That was the only thing she said before getting up and walking away. She knew what she had to do. Tagged: Me Notes: Split this one up. I'll post the next part the next time I can get online. |
